LGBT research update

The LGBT movement in Peru slowly reveals some of its dynamics as Marten van den Berge and his Peruvian colleague Giancaro Cornejo facilitate conversations and workshops with organizations in Lima and in some of the provincial capitals, whilst participating in marches, protests and meetings.

First actions of "small holder agency"

ISS-HIVOS MA research programme 2009

Each year, the Civil Society Building Knowledge Programme supports a number of ISS students to conduct research on issues pertaining to the main questions of the programme. This year, five ISS students were awarded a research grant. Last week, after extensive preparation at ISS and consultation with HIVOS staff and partners, they departed for countries ranging from Uganda to Nicaragua to do their field research. This is the main question that Marten van den Berge, hosted by the Programme for Democracy and Global Transformation (PDGT) in Lima, will explore in the next 9 months.

Rivers and Stones

Does the condition of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) affect the way that they live their citizenship and participation? What are the challenges and possibilities of participation as full citizens for PLHA? A case study on the Global Fund in Peru helped to answer this question. Henry Armas presented the findings of his research, as part of the CSB programma, at the INTRAC conference last year. A summary of his presentation has been published in the latest INTRAC Newsletter.
