Ireen Dubel MA (1956) is a human geographer. Since 2005 she is Programme Manager Gender, Women and Development at Hivos, the Humanist Institute for Co-operation with Developing Countries, in the Netherlands. In this capacity she is responsible for policy development, programme implementation and quality control of Hivos financial and political support to women’s organisations and gender equality initiatives in developing countries.
In 2007/2008 she was nominated as an independent expert to the UN for the topic of financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women. Previous to her current position, she has held different policy and project officer positions at Hivos, and worked a number of years in Southern Africa at the Hivos Regional Office in Harare.
Se is co-author of the publication Gender and organizational change: Bridging the gap between policy and practice, Amsterdam, KIT Press, 1997. Since 2003 she is a member of the editorial team of the Dutch Journal for Humanistics and has co-edited four publications: Global civil society, world citizenship and education, Amsterdam, SWP, 2005 and Cosmetische humanisering¿ (a critical reflection on corporate social responsibility), Amsterdam, SWP, 2005, Women, Feminism & Fundamentalism, Amsterdam, SWP. 2007, and Urgentie Geboden, homo- en lesborechten zijn mensenrechten, Amsterdam, SWP,.2008. Co-editor of the shorter Dutch edition and the English edition Urgency Required – gay and lesbian rights are human rights is André Hielkema MA.
