On September 18, 2011 VPRO's radio show "Foreign Desk" interviewed Ahmed Zidan and Tarek Osman who both played an important role in the Arab Spring. Ahmed Zidan, Egyptian Blogger for Mideast Youth and participant at the Changing Face of Citizen Action, shares his thoughts on the anti-Israeli demonstration at the Israel embassy in Cairo on September 9.
The demonstrations at the Israeli embassy have been a trending topic on the website Mideastyouth.com. Zidan explains that the populist view in Egypt is that Israel is seen as the enemy. The so-called peace is seen as an agreement between the two governments. And so the demonstrations at the embassy do not come out of the blue. The embassy is seen as a symbol, Zidan explains. Some visitors of MEY website support the demonstrations, but other visitors disapprove. Zidan states that the demonstrations are not the answer.
