The Kosmopolis Institute (Kosmopolis, Utrecht), the Humanist Institute for Global Ethics and World Citizenship was founded in 2004 by the University for Humanist Studies in cooperation with Hivos and other partners of the Dutch Humanist Alliance. Kosmopolis activities are project-based and include educational- and research programs on human development and human rights, international and intercultural dialogue and sustainable development.

 

The University for Humanist Studies, founded in 1989, is an independent academic institution recognised and funded by the Dutch government. Humanist traditions are an important source of inspiration. The university has developed a multi- and interdisciplinary teaching- and research programme in Humanistics.

The institute engages in interdisciplinary research, teaching, training and networking on cosmopolitan dimensions of Humanism. It organizes public lectures, training and networking on cosmopolitan dimensions of Humanism. It organizes public lectures and functions as an expertise- and resource centre which partners of the Humanist Alliance and a wider public of interested citizens may consult in support of their own strategies and activities.
