Partners

 

The Promoting Pluralism Knowledge Programme is a collaboration between Hivos, academics and practitioners. In this programme, Hivos collaborates with the University for Humanist Studies in the Netherlands and its Institute Kosmopolis, the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society in Bangalore, India, the Center for Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies in Indonesia and in Uganda the Cross-cultural Foundation of Uganda. In the course of the programme, other civil society actors and academics are engaged in activities.

 

The Kosmopolis Institute of the University for Humanist Studies (Utrecht, the Netherlands) is the lead partner in the Promoting Pluralism Knowledge Programme. Kosmopolis engages in educational - and research programs on human development and human rights, international and intercultural dialogue and sustainable development. Humanist traditions are an important source of inspiration. Kosmopolis is part of the University for Humanist Studies, an independent academic institution recognised and funded by the Dutch government.

In India, the Center for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS, Bangalore) functions as key partner of the knowledge programme on pluralism. CSCS is an academic institution developing new approaches to studying culture – in its most inclusive sense - in India. CSCS aims to find ways to understand crucial problems confronting the country today - relating to questions of gender, caste, community and ethnicity.

In Indonesia, Hivos cooperates with the Center for Religious & Cross-cultural Studies (CRCS) associated with the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. CRCS is the only institution in Indonesia offering a graduate programme on religious studies from a non-religiously affiliated perspective. CRCS aims to promote the development of a democratic, multicultural and just society in Indonesia.

Finally, the Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda takes the lead in Uganda. CCFU is a research-oriented NGO that promotes the recognition of culture as vital for equitable development.

Kosmopolis

 The Kosmopolis Institute (Kosmopolis, Utrecht), the Humanist Institute for Global Ethics and World Citizenship was founded in 2004 by the University for Humanist Studies in cooperation with Hivos and other partners of the Dutch Humanist Alliance. Kosmopolis activities are project-based and include educational- and research programs on human development and human rights, international and intercultural dialogue and sustainable development.

Centre for the Study of Culture and Society

 The Centre for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS, Bangalore) was launched in 2004. Amongst other initiatives, the two organisations have organised an annual International Summer School for Human Development and Human Rights for development scholars and cso professionals.
