Tags: Promoting Pluralism
The Knowledge Programme on Promoting Pluralism has been initiated after several years of Hivos’ partners voicing concern about various forms of fundamentalism inhibiting their work. They were experiencing decreasing space to raise and discuss sensitive issues, to claim rights for women or minorities. The restrictions could be based on fundamentalist belief systems, social structures, political ideas or other sets of ideas expressed by groups in society. Various forms of fundamentalism and pluralism are explored in this Knowledge Programme. The focus is on three countries; Uganda, India and Indonesia. In each country, fundamentalism and pluralism bear different meanings and are approached in various ways. The programme will generate knowledge about relevant issues and relate this knowledge to the work of civil society organisation. The aim of the Knowledge Programme on Promoting Pluralism is to design civil society based strategies on how to strengthen pluralism and to increase capacities to apply those strategies to practice.
