Sessions Knowledge, Pluralism and Transformative Action

After the opening words by Manuela Monteiro and Michael Edwards the conference will look at the result of the five thematic knowledge. We will share our results, experiences and dilemma’s that we have come across both in theory and practice in order to trigger new debate on knowledge and change. Knowledge café and launch of Development Journal

In addition to the parallel session the first day of the conference also allows for some different activities. In the second round of parallel sessions there is a knowledge café where we will explore the challenges of a alternative research methodology and the launch of Development Journal volume 53 no 3 on Sustaining Local Economies.

The politics of knowledge

On the second day the kick-off plenary session ‘politics of knowledge’ builds on the inspiring opening speech of Michael Edwards. The politics of knowledge; increasingly we see the use of ‘knowledges’ in a multiple sense: after all, there is knowledge from academics and from practitioners, from North and South, from dominant and excluded sectors. Sessions Knowledge debate: Old issues, new actors and unusual suspect

After the plenary session the conference will look at the result of the Civil Society Building programme and the Civil Society Building in West Asia programme. We will share our results, experiences and dilemma’s that we have come across on associational ecosystems and citizen’s-centred activism in the plenary session and on governance, citizenship and civic engagement in the parallel sessions.

Open Space and opening Photo exposition ‘A year in Iran’

After the plenary and parallel session the conference invites you to design the agenda of the Open Space session. Here you can suggest any topic within the framework of knowledge and change to discuss with peers. We have six slots available. First come, first serve. Parallel to the Open Space there will be an opening of the foto exposition ‘A year in Iran: Change has not come to an end.’

The Practice of Knowledge and Change

In the past two days the conference has places the concepts of Knowledge and Change in light of the politics of knowledge and the practice of knowledge. The third day we will try to understand how you can generate knowledge during a plenary session that looks at the alternative methodologies to generate knowledge and a feed forward session that looks towards the future of knowledge and change.
