Pushing NGO interaction

NGOs have been joining forces to increase their effectiveness, but what they really need to do is to form alliances with social movements as well to avoid working in isolation from broader social currents.
This is the central argument in a new Broker article by David Sogge and Gisela Dutting. This article is based on a study conducted in 2008 and 2009 in collaboration with the Hivos Civil Society Building Knowledge Programme. The study analyzes the nature of interaction between 55 NGOs with other organizations. It focuses on NGOs operating in southern Africa, the Andes region and India. These cover a number of fields such as rights for women, gays and lesbians, people affected by HIV-AIDS, and ethnic and caste minorities.
