The Other Knowledges Group is a space to explore alternative knowledges, paradigms and worldviews. The group invites you to the following 'multilogue': Knowledge, Change and the Golbal Justice and solidarity Movement.
What knowledge/s, and whose knowledge/s, does - and - should - the Global Justice-Solidarity Movements work with? Do these global movements propose knowledges different from the hegemonic kind?
Three special guests will share their experiences:
Jai Sen - Researcher in the field of social movement, based in New Delhi, (India; Director at CACIM (India Institute for Critical Action: Centre in Movement: www.cacim.net); author of several articles and books about the World Social Forum experiences; forthcoming books, edited together with Peter Waterman include: World Social Forum: Facing the Future; The Movements of Movements: Struggles for Other Worlds; and Worlds of Movement, Worlds in Movement (2011).
Marianne Maeckelbergh - Lecturer in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University; active in grassroots social movements in Global Justice and Solidarity movements; author of The Will of the Many: How the Alterglobalisation Movement is Changing the Face of Democracy (2009).
Peter Waterman - ISS, 1972-98, specialist on inter/national labour and social movements. Author of 'Globalisation, Social Movements and the New Internationalisms' (1998), 'Los nuevos tejidos nerviosos del internacionalsimo y la solidaridad' (2006), and 'Itinerary of a Long-Distance Internationalist' (Forthcoming).
