How to connect journalists with leaders and members from civil society organisations around the world? A new initiative by CIVICUS and InterPressService (IPS) makes an effort to bridge this information gap, to let 'the grassroots' more effectively communicate with the media on their actions against poverty, as "visions and voices from the South" are often missing in mainstream media.
The "Civil Society Gateway", is an online communication resource, and is designed to address this challenge by bringing together civil society organisations and experts on a wide range of themes. It is easily searchable by geography and theme, aimed to help journalists and the media find the sources they need from civil society to produce their stories. Through the Civil Society Gateway project, it is hoped that the many often-silent voices of civil society will be heard. To enter the gateway, visit www.civilsocietygateway.org.
