Institute of Social Studies
A leading postgraduate research institute in international development, Institute of Social Studies (ISS, The Hague,
the Netherlands) has a key role in promoting the generation and sharing of knowledge on development issues. ISS
undertakes innovative research on civil society, provides educational activities as well as the dissemination and translation
of research results into policy and strategies. ISS is currently focusing on the practical applicability and utilisation of its knowledge products.
Kosmopolis Institute
The University for Humanist Studies (UH) is an independent academic institution recognised and funded by the Dutch government. The Kosmopolis Institute, the Humanist Institute for Global Ethics and World Citizenship, was founded in 2004 by the UH in cooperation with Hivos and other partners in the Dutch Humanist Alliance. Kosmopolis activities are project-based and include educational and research programmes on human development and human rights, international and intercultural dialogue and sustainable development.
Centre for the Study of Culture and Society
The Centre for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS, Bangalore, India) was established by a group of scholars in 1996 to understand culture in its most inclusive sense, encompassing the diverse attempts of people to produce meaning of various kinds. CSCS believes there is a need to reframe the social sciences and humanities disciplines, so that they are able to deal with the extraordinary transformations and political mobilisations that are currently taking place, in particular relating to questions of gender, caste and community.
University of Amsterdam
The Amsterdam School for Social Science Research (ASSR) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), is a national research school with strong roots in the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences of the UvA. The research mission of the ASSR is to combine the disciplines of anthropology, sociology, and political science in a historical and comparative perspective and to investigate social developments transcending the boundaries of the local setting or national society.
