Collective responsibility for sustainable livelihoods
Tags: Worldwide, Knowledge Platform
Rick van der Ploeg will hold a keynote speech on ‘climate change, scramble for natural resources, financial crisis and sustainable development’. Subsequently, an international panel of civil society experts will discuss how to bring people’s needs to the centre of economics and how to foster collective action for a more sustainable world. The panel consists of Franck Amalric, Khawar Mumtaz and Allert van den Ham. The event will be chaired by SID President Jan Pronk. Upon invitation only.
This seminar is part of a broader debate on the financial and ecological crises, including a special issue of Development (vol. 52, no. 3) entitled Beyond economics and an international seminar held with UNDESA in New York in November this year. This global event is organised in partnership
between the Society for International Development (SID International and SID NL) and the Humanist Institute for Development Cooperation (Hivos).
